[112.01] Using Blackboard to Explore Astronomy in Art and Music

L.G. Reed (SVSU)

This poster describes an innovative writing assignment I’ve developed for my 120 non-science Astronomy students. The students use the online course management system called Blackboard 6 to gain access to a wide variety of specially selected music and art and must complete a written “astronomical analysis” of several pieces. Results have been very positive and highly entertaining. The “mechanics” of the organizing such an assignment will be discussed. Art work, lyrics and snippets of music (via an iPod) will be also be displayed, along with samples of student work and commentary.
