We have carried out a high angular resolution near-infrared imaging study of the fields of 5 quasars with 6 strong absorption line systems at z < 0.5, using the Hokupa'a adaptive optics system and the QUIRC near-infrared camera on the Gemini-North telescope. Several features are seen at projected separations of 0.4-16 \arcsec from the quasar. If some of these features are associated with the absorbers, the objects would have integrated rest frame luminosities of \approx 0.001-0.1 LH* or LK*, for \Omegam = 0.3 and \Omega\lambda = 0.7. A quantitative analysis of the morphology of these features reveals a mixture of morphological types.
