[141.04] The Multiwavelength View of M31 including New Spitzer/MIPS Infrared Images

K. Gordon, G. Rieke, O. Krause, C. Engelbracht, J. Hinz, K. Misselt, P. Perez-Gonzalez, K. Su, E. Young (U. of Arizona), W. Latter, D. Levine, S. Stolovy, A. Noriega-Crespo (SSC), D. Hines (SSI), M. Werner (JPL), D. Thilker, L. Bianchi (Johns Hopkins), R. Braun (Dwingeloo), J. Mould (NOAO), P. Barmby (CfA)

New far-infrared images at 24, 70, and 160 microns from the Multiband Imaging Photometer for Spitzer (MIPS) are presented covering the full optical disk of M31 (1x3 degrees) including the satellite galaxies M32 and NGC 205. These new infrared images reveal intricate details of the nuclear region and multiple star forming arms/rings in M31. When combined with new and existing ultraviolet (GALEX), optical (broad-band and H-alpha), and radio (HI and continuum) images this multiwavelength dataset will be used to study many topics at unprecedented spatial resolution for a spiral galaxy (other than the Milky Way). As an example of just one of these topics, a comparison of ultraviolet, H-alpha, and infrared star formation tracers will be presented. Other posters at this meeting use this unique multiwavelength set of M31 images to explore the resolved stars, nuclear region, Schmidt Law, and dust in satellite galaxies.
