[8.04] Integration of a Starlab Portable Planetarium into the Activities of Project ASTRO-CT

W. Herbst, B. A. Redington (Wesleyan U.)

The Starlab Portable Planetarium is a well known tool for astronomy education and outreach. To maximize its usefulness, however, one must address the inevitable issues of training, supervision and logistics. After some experimentation we have adopted a strategy which seems to work in CT and may have applicability elsewhere. Here we describe the essentials of our scheme and report on successes and challenges. Part of the success is linked to use of the planetarium in Project ASTRO activities. We also provide a progress report on Project ASTRO-CT, one of the expansion sites of this very successful ASP program. We are particularly indebted to NASA which has supported Project ASTRO-CT and the Starlab project through its NASA OSS E/PO program and also through the Space Telescope Science Institute Educational Outreach program.
