[153.06] The Keck Observatory Archive (KOA)

H. D. Tran, J. Mader, A. Conrad (Keck Observatory), B. Berriman (IPAC & MSC), D. Ciardi (MSC), A. Laity, N. Tahir-Kheli (IPAC), T. Bida (Lowell Obs.)

The Keck Observatory Archive (KOA) began operations on August 19, 2004. The KOA is now ingesting observations made with the upgraded three-CCD mosaic on the High Resolution Echelle Spectrometer (HIRES), archiving all level-0 (raw) data from HIRES. After each night of HIRES observations, the archive software at W. M. Keck Observatory finds all data taken in the previous 24 hour period, assesses the data integrity, adds archive-specific keywords to the initial headers and sends the header information (metadata) to the Michelson Science Center (MSC) at Caltech. The data files in FITS format are written to DVDs and shipped to the MSC every week for ingestion. Data access is controlled through a proprietary period and user-id login account. Metadata will be available within 24 hours of observation and the FITS files will be available for download within 1-3 weeks. The data are accessible through a web query interface hosted at the MSC.
