[29.06] New scattered light images of debris disks using HST/ACS coronagraphy

P. Kalas, J. R. Graham (UC Berkeley), M. Clampin (NASA GSFC)

We report key results from our HST/ACS coronagraphic survey for debris disks around two dozen nearby Vega-like stars. We present new V-band images of debris disks surrounding A, F, and K main sequence stars. In each case, radial and azimuthal variations in disk structure may be attributed to dynamical sculpting by planet-mass objects. With estimated ages between 200 Myr and 1 Gyr, these relatively old debris disks are among the first extrasolar analogs of our Kuiper Belt observed in reflected light.

We acknowledge support from STScI/NASA/AURA grant GO-09475.01
