COSMOS is the largest HST survey ever undertaken -- imaging an equatorial, 2 square deg field (E(B-V) ~ 0.02 mag) with single-orbit ACS I-F814W exposures to a depth of 27 mag (10sigma). Extensive multi-wavelength ground and space-based observations of this field have also been committed. COSMOS will detect 2x106 objects and sample a volume in the high redshift universe approaching that sampled locally by the Sloan survey. In this talk, I will provide a general overview to the COSMOS survey : its science goals, the data sets and release schedules. A major release of the Cycle 12 ACS imaging will occur at the time of this AAS meeting, distributed through MAST and IRSA/IPAC.
