[56.06] Zodiacal Background: Spitzer Observations vs. DIRBE-Based Model

B. Bhattacharya, W.T. Reach (Spitzer Science Center, Caltech)

Spitzer Space Telescope data are processed through a pipeline that removes sky background based on an empirical DIRBE-based model. This model makes assumptions about zodiacal dust distribution, which is the primary contributor to the zodiacal background (zody). Now that Spitzer has sampled lines of sight all the way around the sun, the actual intensity, as well as time variability can be more accurately determined. We find that the periodicity of the model is consistent with IRAC observations, though observed intensities are higher by up to 30%.
