[22.01] A Search for Variable Stars in the Old Open Cluster NGC 188

A.J. Davis, E.G. Hintz, M.D. Joner (Brigham Young Univ.)

We will present aperture and PSF photometry for stars in the old open cluster NGC 188. Observations were taken with the 0.6-m/0.9-m Burrell Schmidt Telescope and with the 0.4-m David Derrick Telescope. We report the discovery of a new variable star, which is likely a \delta Scuti, in the field. This new variable has a period of 0.111721 days and an amplitude of 0.04 in the V filter. We will also present a revised period estimate for V13 as reported by Zhang et al. (2002). Revised periods and light curves will also be presented for eight previously known variable stars in the field.

We would like to thank the BYU ORCA office for a Mentoring Grant for Undergraduates which helped support this work. We also acknowledge the BYU Dept. of Physics and Astronomy REU program.
