M. G. Allen (Observatoire de Strasbourg), Astrophysical Virtual Observatory Team
We show how prototype Virtual Observatory tools, developed by the Astrophysical Virtual Observatory (AVO) project, are being used for scientific research. Using real science cases, we demonstrate the use of new and emerging VO standards for accessing data and using VO compliant services. We illustrate how gains in interoperability between large imaging data sets, catalogue servers and VO tools enabled the discovery of candidate type 2 QSOs in the GOODS fields, and how these techniques may be applied to any VO compatible data set. We also demonstrate access to radio continuum data cubes (in collaboration with CADC) and ISO and XMM data (in collaboration with ESAC) for the investigation of Young Stellar Objects.
