Space-based grisms have been proposed for the study of dark energy using high-redshift supernovae, as well as for studies of baryon oscillations through large galaxy redshift surveys. Compared to a spectrograph, grisms offer a distinct multiplexing advantage: spectra can be obtained for every object in the field of view simultaneously. However, potentially serious problems with backgrounds, calibrations, and other systematics must be overcome. In order to study the feasibility of grisms for precision cosmology from space, we have developed both a parametric grism exposure-time calculator and a full-featured and highly configurable Java-based grism simulation. The pixel-level simulation incorporates realistic telescope and detector models. In addition, we have developed a tool to extract spectra from the output images. We describe the design and capabilities of the simulation, and present the results of simulating several different configurations.
