We present imaging polarimetry of the central region of the edge-on starburst galaxy NGC 3628 in the H band, and photometric imaging in the H and K bands at a resolution of one arcsecond. These observations have given us a direct view of the dust enshrouded nucleus of the galaxy. We find a dust component that is probably associated with the nuclear ring seen in molecular line observations. Despite having a starburst nucleus, NGC 3628 shows no clear evidence of a polar nuclear magnetic field geometry as is the case for M82. The field is, instead, seen to lie along the plane of the galaxy indicative of a more normal field geometry.
