[19.01] The Workshop for New Faculty in Physics and Astronomy

S.E. Deustua (AAS)

The AAS, APS (American Physical Society) and AAPT (American Association of Physics Teachers) jointly sponsor the annual Workshop for New Faculty in Physics and Astronomy (NFW), funded by the NSF’s Division of Undergraduate Education. The purpose of the workshop is to help new physics and astronomy faculty understand how students learn physics and astronomy and to help them evaluate the implications of this information for their own teaching activities at the undergraduate and, where appropriate, at the graduate level. The workshop covers new developments in astronomy and physics curriculum and pedagogy and is very popular. Many new faculty have found these valuable. I will present a brief history of, and an introduction to the workshops.
