[36.05] Rotation periods for solar- and late-type stars in selected open clusters

S.A. Barnes (Lowell Observatory)

Rotation period observations are presented for solar- and late-type stars in a series of open clusters. The morphology of the observations is striking, suggesting that rotating stars can be classified into disjoint equivalence classes, each of which has a distinctive stellar mass and age dependence. These dependences suggest a particular scenario for the rotational evolution of stars that explains the dispersion observed in young star clusters and the lack thereof in older ones.
