Comet 9P/Tempel 1 has been observed in the optical for about one week around the Deep Impact event on 4 July 2005. The ESA 1-m Optical Ground Station (OGS) telescope on Tenerife was used to obtain images and low-resolution spectra. The images were obtained with broadband BVR as well as special narrow-band comet filters. The goal of the observations was to investigate the effects of the impact in terms of changes in the nucleus activity as well as coma morphology, composition and dust size distribution. Here we report our initial results.
