[61.05] APIS, a New Tool to Study Planetary Rings Images and Spectra

The AIM research team (CEA-CNRS-University Paris 7) is deeply involved in the analysis of planetary rings, currently Saturn's rings images and spectra obtained by the ISS and CIRS instruments onboard the CASSINI spacecraft. A ground data segment, APIS, has been built to handle and process the large amount of data expected and integrate it to a larger database containing other rings data obtained from ground or past space missions. Whereas the analysis core code were built in IDL, for easier use and upgrade by scientists, it communicates with other specific languages like Java for archiving software (automatic data downloading), and including JDBC interface to database for sampling management using VOTable (an international standard built by Virtual Observatory Consortium), as data exchange format. Other specific tasks require usage or integration of software from public domain (Squirrel), or related community (TOPCAT/VOPlot), easily used or integrated thanks to standard. We will present how all modules and data flow are integrated to form a centralized data management and analysis tool, using scientific illustrations concerning the ring's dynamics and spectroscopy.
