[163.01] Gas-phase CO2 emission toward Cepheus A East: the result of recent shock activity?

Melnick (Harvard Smithsonian Center for Astrophysics), E.A. Bergin (University of Michigan), W.J. Forrest, D.M. Watson, J.D. Green (University of Rochester), R. Gutermuth (Harvard Smithsonian Center for Astrophysics), K.H. Kim, J.L. Pipher (University of Rochester)

Using the Infrared Spectrograph (IRS) onboard the Spitzer Space Telescope, we have obtained the first maps of the distribution of both gas-phase CO2 emission (14.98 microns) and CO2 ice absorption (15.2 microns) toward the star-forming region Cepheus A East. We will discuss the relative importance of the various excitation mechanisms capable of producing this gaseous CO2 emission. We will use the CO2 abundances we derived both in the gas phase and the solid phase to discuss whether shocks might have played an important role in determining the CO2 chemistry toward this particular star-forming region.
