The arrival of next-generation, ground-based detectors such as HESS, soon to be joined by VERITAS, has ushered in a new era in TeV gamma-ray astronomy. I will review the physics issues that can be addressed by the new detectors and discuss the theoretical implications of some of the latest observations.
