[64.13] Mapping the Distribution and Kinematics of the Interstellar Medium of IC5332

L. Knapton (Western Washington University), E. Wilcots (University of Wisconsin - Madison)

IC5332 is a late type spiral galaxy with obvious spiral arms which is viewed nearly face on. As such, it is well suited for a study of the spatial correlation between the various phases of its interstellar medium. By analyzing both continuum and line data obtained at the Australia Telescope Compact Array, we mapped the distribution and kinematics of the HI in IC 5332, as well as the distribution of its radio continuum emission. We present a comparison of these data with broad-band and emission line optical images. We find a correlation between the strongest radio continuum and diffuse X-ray source, and a local minimum in the HI distribution. Aside from this there is little evidence that recent and current star formation is disrupting the neutral ISM in this galaxy.

This research was funded by the National Science Foundation's Research Experience for Undergraduates program at the University of Wisconsin-Madison.
