[185.06] Young stellar objects in L1228-South

In the Spitzer Galactic First Look Survey (GFLS), we have discovered an aggregate of young stars, L1228-South, discussed further in Padgett et al. (2004). This new aggregate lies just south of the core of L1228. The nine apparently young stars display a wide variety in their spectral energy distributions (SEDs), with none displaying purely photospheric emission. These range from low luminosity Class II sources to Class III sources with excess at 24 μm. We present in this poster spectroscopic classification and optical photometry of these stars. Using spectra obtained from the Double Spectrograph at Palomar 200″, we have been able to classify five of these stars. Their spectral types range from late K to early M. The Palomar 60″ photometry data have enabled us to better constrain the SEDs. Using the optical magnitudes, and estimating the effective temperatures and radii from the spectral types, we have fit theoretical models to our observations, thus constraining the SEDs and determining the degree of the long-wavelength excess.
