[135.06] Chemical Abundance Patterns in Red Giant Branch Stars in the Andromeda Spiral Galaxy

This paper presents high S/N spectra of red giant branch (RGB) stars in the Andromeda spiral galaxy (M31) obtained as part of our Keck/DEIMOS spectroscopic survey. The spectra cover the wavelength range \rm ~6500-9000Å and have a resolution (FWHM) of about \rm 1.3Å or R ~7000. We explore chemical abundance patterns among the most metal poor of M31's RGB stars. Stars are grouped according to their position in a color-magnitude diagram and their spectra are coadded to achieve higher S/N. The groupings are done separately for members of different structural components within M31: inner spheroid, outer halo, disk, giant southern stream, dwarf satellites, etc. This allows us to carry out a comparative study of the chemical enrichment histories of various subcomponents within M31.
