Since QSO damped Lyman alpha systems (DLAs) are rare and UV spectroscopy is required to detect Ly\alpha at z<1.65, it is desirable to have new methods to quantify the neutral gas content of the low-redshift universe. We are exploring the MgII selection method of Rao et al.~(2005) by considering additional absorption-line system properties. We compare the relative success of different approaches to identifying DLA systems using Principal Components Analysis (PCA), multiple regression, and cuts in parameter space.
