We present a new determination of the cosmic distance scale at high redshift using the joint analysis of high redshift (0.14 < z <0.89) Chandra X-ray and OVRO and BIMA Sunyaev-Zel'dovich (SZ) effect data of a sample of 39 high redshift (0.14 < z <0.89) galaxy clusters. The SZ/X-ray distance determinations are completely independent of the traditional cosmic distance ladder and provide a valuable check of - and are complementary to - low-redshift determinations of the expansion rate such as the HST Key project results. We review the technique, including the inherent assumptions and possible systematics, and present the results.
