[90.02] The Merging of Black Hole Binary in Gas Sphere: Effects of the Equation of State

Y. Li (Harvard-Smithsonian Center for Astrophysics, Harvard University)

I will present high resolution SPH simulations of the merging of black hole binary in three polytropic gas spheres: adiabatic, \gamma=1.2, and isothermal. Our results show that the separation of the binary decreases quickly in an isothermal sphere, less fast when \gamma=1.2, and slowly in an adiabatic sphere, suggesting that the equation of state of the gas plays an important role in the merging process.
