Multi-band, ground-based photometric observations of ~5 million stars in the Kepler Discovery Mission field is currently underway. These data will be used to estimate stellar parameters allowing appropriate targets to be selected for the Kepler input catalogue. We present the results of an initial spectroscopic survey of a small sample of blue sources from the preliminary catalogue. Eight new white dwarfs have been discovered as well as other interesting objects. A summary of our results and details of the new white dwarfs are presented.
