[80.16] The DEEP2 redshift survey and the Extended Groth Strip Collaboration

M. Davis (University of California at Berkeley), DEEP Team, Extended Groth Strip Collaboration

The DEEP2 (Deep Extragalactic Evolution Probe 2) distant galaxy redshift survey is nearing completion, and release of data to the community is in progress. Using the DEIMOS multi-object spectrograph on Keck II, DEEP2 has obtained spectra for 50,000 galaxies to R=24.1, mostly in the redshift range 0.7 ... 1.4 . The high spectral resolution (R > approx. 5000) provides precision redshifts and galaxy kinematics, used to study galaxy evolution and mass assembly, as well as structure formation down to small scales.

The Extended Groth Strip (EGS) Survey is a collaborative effort to coordinate multi-wavelength observations in this popular field. The project is now a large, panchromatic survey, and includes deep coverage from various space observatories (2-band HST ACS imaging over 600 square arcmin; Spitzer; GALEX; Chandra; XMM), DEEP2 spectroscopy, and many ground-based observations in the optical, NIR and radio. We present an overview of the data, the layout and specifications of DEEP2 and the EGS Survey, give data access and contact information, and highlight recent science results.
