[165.03] Characteristic stellar masses in massive stellar clusters

We consider the regulation of thermal Jeans masses by radiation in regions of massive star formation, and argue that this regulates the characteristic stellar mass in the resulting population. The derived characteristic mass is of order the Chandrasekhar mass.
