[14.01] Tracing Galactic Star Formation with Gamma-Ray Lines from 60Fe

J. Molgaard, D. Hartmann (Clemson University)

Gamma-Ray lines from radioactive 60Fe, produced predominately in supernovae, are a unique and powerful tracer of galaxy wide star formation. We present Monte Carlo simulations of the galactic distribution of this isotope. We also discuss the implications of recent detections by INTEGRAL.

This research was supported in part by NASA through the INTEGRAL GI program.
