[170.09] Mapping VLBA Observations of Gravitational Lens Systems B2045+265 and B1608+656

C.E. Flack (Bemidji State University), C.D. Fassnacht (UC-Davis)

High angular resolution observations of two gravitational lens systems were obtained with the VLBA. The purpose of the observations was to search for millarcsecond-scale structure in the lensed images. We present the results of the observations of CLASS B2045+265 and CLASS B1608+656. We found precise positions for the lensed images in both systems as well as for the radio-loud lensing galaxy in the B2045+265 system. We also detect possible extended structure in the brightest lensed image in the B2045+265 system, but the remaining images appear to be unresolved. The B1608+656 system was observed at four frequencies, 1.6, 5.0, 8.4 and 15.0 GHz, allowing us to determine the spectra of the lensed images. In contrast, the B2045+265 system was only observed at 5.0 GHz. The new data will be incorporated into improved models of the lens mass distribution in the two systems.
