[72.04] Detection of Orbital Periodicities in X-rays using RXTE/ASM Data

A. M. Levine, E. H. Morgan, R. Remillard (M.I.T. Kavli Institute for Astrophysics and Space Research), MIT/GSFC RXTE/ASM Team

We have used a series of filtering and smoothing techniques together with fast Fourier Transforms to extend the results of Wen et al. (2005) in a search for periodicities in RXTE/ASM data in the frequency range 0.002 to 144 cycles/day. Though this advanced search is not yet complete, improvements in sensitivity have yielded the detection of more than 10 periodicities not detected in the search of Wen et al. The latter include both previously known and new periodicities. A total of 44 orbital periodicities have been detected as of October, 2005. An up-to-date list of the detected periodicities will be given, and some preliminary thoughts on the implications of these results will be discussed.
