[12.11] Segmented Glass Optics and the Hard X-ray Telescope on Constellation-X: Progress and Prospects

C. Hailey (Columbia University), HXT Segmented Glass Optics Team

We report on development of segmented glass optics for the Constellation-X HXT. In particular we describe recent work on thermal and environmental testing of prototype optics of relevance to the HXT. We also describe work on epoxy promoters which increase the strength of bonding between glass and graphite/epoxy. Such work is relevant not only to the HXT but to any optic that uses a composite structure containing epoxy. Plans for building and testing prototype optics with significantly higher angular resolution than the current HXT baseline will also be discussed.
