[51.07] New Results on Soft Gamma Repeaters and Gamma-Ray Bursts with INTEGRAL

K. Hurley (UC Berkeley)

INTEGRAL has proven to be an excellent mission for the study of bursts, with speed, accuracy, and sensitivity rivalling those of Swift. Gamma-ray bursts are detected both within the IBIS field of view at a rate of about 10/year, and by the SPI anticoincidence system at a rate of about 100/year, as well as by the SPI. Hundreds of SGR bursts have been detected from SGR1806-20 by IBIS during Galactic center observations and ToO pointings. I will review some of the highlights of these observations, which include the closest securely identified GRB (z=0.105) after 980425/SN1998bw, and the discovery of a hardness-intensity anticorrelation for SGR bursts. I will also mention some of the more exotic possibilities offered by INTEGRAL, such as the measurement of GRB polarization and the study of quantum gravity using bursts.

This work was supported by NASA INTEGRAL Guest Investigator program grants.
