[63.10] A Comparison of Spitzer Space Telescope and Chandra X-ray Observatory Observations of the Galactic Plane

H Gneiser, R.A. Benjamin (U of Wisconsin-Whitewater), P.O. Slane (Harvard-Smithsonian CfA), GLIMPSE Team

We present a comparison of Spitzer/IRAC observations taken as part the GLIMPSE (Galactic Legacy Infrared MidPlane Survey Extraordinaire) Legacy program with two selected Chandra fields: a 54 ksec ACIS-I observation towards W51 (l=49.49 and b=-0.37) and a 15 ksec ACIS-I observation towards GEV J1825-1310 (l=18.46 and b=-0.34). We present a list of positions and count rates for X-ray point sources extracted from these data. Approximately 60% of these sources are found to have plausible counterparts in the GLIMPSE point source catalog. We discuss the mid-infrared fluxes of these X-ray selected sources, and compare our results ot the analysis of a deep Chandra observation of the Galactic plane by Ebisawa et al (2005). We confirm the diffuse X-ray emission seen in W51 by Townsley et al (2004), and show that it fills a bright ring of PAH emission seen by GLIMPSE. This work is supported by the National Space Grant Consortium through its Wisconsin chapter and by the NSF through an Astronomy and Astrophysics REU site grant (AST-0453442) at UW-Madison.
