[115.19] The Fine Guidance Sensor for the JWST

J.B. Hutchings (HIA), D. Aldridge (EMS technologies), R. Doyon (Universite de Montreal), C. Evans (EMS technolgies), D. Provencal (CSA), N. Rowlands (EMS technologies)

We describe the design of the FGS guider for the James Webb telescope, and its integration into the instrument complement of the observatory. The guider is required to provide 5mas guide star positions, updated at 16Hz, and to have at least 95% guide star probability anywhere in the sky, with full redundancy. We describe the performance modelling of the guider, and show the mechanical and optical layouts of the instrument. This work is funded by the Canadian Space Agency as part of its partnership in the JWST.
