[117.03] Optimization of SIM PlanetQuest Performance by Selection of Reference Stars

X. Pan, S. Shaklan, S. Hunyadi, S. Unwin, A. Wehrle (Jet Propulsion Laboratory)

SIM PlanetQuest has several modes of operation, including Wide Angle, Narrow Angle, and Differential Wide Angle. The differential mode allows moderate (10 micro-arcsecond) precision without requiring grid-stars to reach this precision – a process that takes several years. We describe the science that we can accomplish in this mode, including astrometry of galactic black holes, x-ray binaries, and quasars. We show how the reference frame distribution affects the measurement precision and optimize the selection of the reference frame for several SIM targets.
