[57.02] NVO in Museums and Planetaria

M.U. SubbaRao, D.K. Rosner, S. Skutnik (Adler Planetarium and Astronmy Museum)

National Virtual Observatory tools and services provide tremendous opportunities for informal science education. I will give an overview of NVO related activities taking place at the Adler Planetarium with particular emphasis on how the NVO enables authentic research experiences for museum visitor. Case studies of these experiences will be presented based on exhibits in Adler's CyberSpace gallery, and their effectiveness will be evaluated. Accessing NVO web services from multimedia development packages commonly used in museum kiosk development will also be presented. Finally some speculations on the future of the use of NVO tools and services in the informal education setting will be given.
