2006 Symposium of the NSF Astronomy \& Astrophysics Postdoctoral Fellows

Saturday-Sunday, January 7, 2006, 9:00am-6:00pm, Roosevelt

The 2006 Symposium of the NSF Astronomy \& Astrophysics Postdoctoral Fellows will be held on January 7-8, just before the AAS meeting in Washington, DC. The symposium will consist of (1) a keynote talk by Chris Mihos, (2) talks by AAPFs on their research and education projects, (3) discussion panels on how to be a good research advisor, exploring non-traditional outreach methods, and improving diversity in astronomy, and (4) an invited talk by Lillian McDermott on publishing educational and public outreach research results in educational journals and other media. Prospective fellowship applicants and other members of the astronomy and astrophysics community are welcome and encouraged to attend. The NSF Astronomy and Astrophysics Postdoctoral Fellowships provide opportunities for highly qualified investigators within three years of obtaining their PhD to carry out an integrated program of independent research and education. The program is intended to recognize early- career investigators of significant potential and to provide them with experience in research and education that will establish them in positions of distinction and leadership in the community.
