Session 103 - Quasars & Blazars.
Display session, Saturday, January 10
Exhibit Hall,
We present Keck LRIS absorption-line spectroscopy of the host galaxy of 3C 48. Our observations at various slit positions sample the different luminous components near the QSO nucleus, including the apparent tidal tail and several strong emission line regions.
We use Bruzual amp; Charlot (1997) models to analyze the stellar populations of the different components. Along with the kinematical information we obtain from the absorption lines, we use these models to attempt to describe an evolutionary history for the host galaxy and the connection between the apparent merger and the QSO activity in 3C 48.
