[27.01] The FBQS BL Lac Sample

S. A. Laurent-Muehleisen (IGPP/LLNL), R. H. Becker, M. D. Gregg (UC-Davis), M. S. Brotherton (IGPP/LLNL), R. L. White (STScI), D. J. Helfand (Columbia U)

The FIRST Bright Quasar Survey (FBQS) has identified a new, large, deep radio-selected sample of quasars. This program has also proven to be a rich source of new BL Lacs. Approximately 12% of the over 1200 candidates are either BL Lacs or transitional objects between BL Lacs and other AGN subclasses. We will discuss the broadband characteristics of this sample which has a radio flux limit 1000 times more sensitive than the only comparable sample, the 1 Jy BL Lacs. The FBQS BL Lacs will therefore be useful for studying the relationship between High and Low energy peaked BL Lacs at radio flux densities between 1 and 100 mJy, a regime which presently is dominated by X-ray-selected samples.
