[26.06] US Community Access to the Hobby-Eberly Telescope

T. A. Boroson (NOAO)

Twenty-seven nights per year for six years on the Hobby-Eberly telescope will be available to the astronomical community through the NSF large telescope instrumentation program. This observing time, to be queue scheduled with observations made by the HET observatory staff, will be administered by NOAO through the usual peer-review time allocation process. The HET management have specified that NOAO serve as an intermediary for community interactions. This talk will explain how prospective proposers can get information about HET capabilities, prepare and submit proposals, and obtain support for specifying their HET observations. The schedule for availability of HET time depends on the commissioning of the instruments, but we anticipate accepting proposals in March, 1999 for the fall 1999 semester.
