[41.11] RXTE Observations of the Transient Accreting Pulsar 2S 1845-024 (GS 1843-02)

M.H. Finger (USRA/MSFC)

I present RXTE observations of the 1998 September outburst of the transient accreting pulsar 2S 1845-024 = GS 1843-02. Previous Compton Observatory/BATSE monitoring has shown that this likely Be/X-ray binary system regularly outbursts every 242 days. The outburst onsets occur near periastron passage of a highly eccentric (e=0.88) orbit. A transient accretion disk is thought to form during each outburst. The 1998 September outburst was monitored with RXTE using a series of 42 pointings covering an interval of 60 days. I present preliminary results from these observations.
