[58.09] Using the Sunyaev-Zel'dovich effect to Constrain the High-Redshift Cluster Abundance

C.A. Metzler (University of Illinois)

The redshift-independence of the Sunyaev-Zel'dovich effect provides an excellent tool for measuring the abundance of clusters at high-redshift. Comparing the abundance of clusters detected in SZ with theoretical predictions requires an understanding of the relationship between an observed SZ signal and cluster mass. We show that using the full set of data in an SZ map allows the construction of a mass estimator comparable to the cluster X--ray temperature in precision.
