[18.04] ISIS-1 the Infrared and Submillimeter Interferometry Spacecraft: a Precursor Mission Concept

M.R. Swain, W. Langer, H.W. Yorke, C.R. Lawrence, M. Shao, V.G. Mannings (Jet Propulsion Laboratory)

ISIS-1 is a concept for a submillimeter, space based, direct-detection interferometer. Cryogenic optics and angular resolution comparable to that of a 25 meter aperture would give ISIS-1 a spectacular combination of sensitivity and angular resolution from 40 to 400 microns. ISIS-1 could directly address questions regarding galaxy evolution and star formation. It is envisioned that ISIS-1 would serve as a precursor mission to demonstrate technologies for a future submillimeter space mission with substantially greater angular resolution and sensitivity.
