The second brightest supernova remnant in the Small Magellanic Cloud, E0102-72, was recently observed with the High Energy Transmission Grating (HETG) onboard the Chandra X-Ray Observatory. We present initial results from a combined analysis of the central undispersed image and the high resolution grating spectrum. We use the undispersed image to map radial and azimuthal variations in the X-ray emitting plasma within the remnant. Using the undispersed image to constrain the spatial morphology, we examine dispersed images of the remnant to investigate spatial variations in emission from individual X-ray lines, particularly the strongest lines of H- and He-like oxygen, neon and magnesium. Plasma diagnostics from these data provide a wealth of information on the physical conditions in the X-ray emitting plasma and are discussed in a companion paper.
