[53.05] In Search of the IR Background using Large Astronomical Databases

K. D. Borne, J. Blackwell (Raytheon ITSS, GSFC), C. Cheung, D. Leisawitz (NASA, GSFC)

We present a proof-of-concept research investigation that is indicative of the science possibilities and capabilities envisioned for the future NVO = National Virtual Observatory (http://astro.caltech.edu/nvoconf/). We have analyzed a collection of large radio source catalogs for potential counterparts to IR-bright sources using on-line databases along with object-oriented database query techniques (http://amase.gsfc.nasa.gov/). The identified sources are potential candidates for contributors to the IR background reported by the COBE/DIRBE team (Hauser et al. 1998). (This project was supported under NASA contract NAS5-98156.)
