[45.05] Low Luminosity X-ray Sources in 47Tuc: First Chandra Results

J. Grindlay, P. Edmonds, C. Heinke, S. Murray (CfA)

As part of the Chandra GTO program, we have carried out a deep (74ksec) observation of the globular cluster 47Tuc with ACIS-I. The results are truly spectacular, with over 100 sources detected in the central 2 arcmin field. We shall present the overall Chandra image, in several bands, and discuss the distribution of sources in both radial position and apparent x-ray flux. Some comparisons with our optical identification studies with HST will be given, but details of the optical identifications and associations with source classes (e.g. millisecond pulsars) will come in a series of followup papers for which analysis is still in progress.
