[90.06] A Search for OH Maser Emission from Newly Discovered Miras in the Southern Sky.

A. D. Foss (Principia Coll. & Maria Mitchell Obs.), M. J. Gaylard (Hartebeesthoek Radio Astronomy Observatory, South Africa)

A search for 1612 and 1667 MHz OH maser emission was performed for 7 recently discovered southern Miras with the 26m radio telescope of the Hartebeesthoek Radio Astronomy Observatory, South Africa. These stars were selected from the 2000 and 2001 Namelist of Variable Stars for their infrared IRAS colors and low galactic latitudes. No emission greater than 0.6 Jy was detected. In addition, four OH/IR stars that had been reported over the past two decades as having a changing OH maser emission were observed. We detected OH emission in all four stars and compare it here with the previously reported results. This project was supported by the NSF/REU grant AST-9820555 and the Nantucket Maria Mitchell Association.
