[81.06] Astronomy Outreach for Kids: Using Informal Education to Support Education Reform

J. Noel-Storr (Columbia University)

I present examples of how astronomy outreach activities designed for young people can be turned into informal education opportunities to support the national science education standards and science education reform efforts in schools. In particular I will describe a variety of the outreach activities for children conducted at the Columbia University observatory, programs we have planned for groups from various schools and some short programs designed for a residential summer camp.
