[40.07] The Las Campanas Nearby Cluster Survey: II. Galaxy Luminosity Functions from Deep Spectroscopic Samples

D. Christlein, A.I. Zabludoff (Steward Observatory)

We present R-band galaxy luminosity functions (GLFs) for six nearby clusters with redshifts 3,700\,km/s\,<\,cz\,<\,20,000\,km/s and velocity dispersions 700\,km/s\,<\,\sigma\,<\,1,250\,km/s. In the case of the nearest cluster, our sample extends to MR=-14 (7 magnitudes below M*), making this the deepest spectroscopic sample of the cluster GLF to date. We also present composite GLFs for cluster and field galaxies to MR=-15, including GLFs of subsamples of emission and non-emission line galaxies.

The six cluster samples are consistent with their respective composite GLFs, indicating a considerable uniformity of the GLF in dense environments over the sampled magnitude ranges.

There are significant variations in the GLF of non-emission line galaxies between the field and clusters which can be described as a steepening of the faint end slope in the range -20\,<\,MR\,<\,-18.
