[53.05] Measuring Authentic Digital Data in K-12 Classrooms

University of Oregon's Electronic Universe outreach program provides the opportunity for students of all grade levels to perform inquiry-based science within the context of astrophysics. The major goal is to provide experience in the scientific investigative process with specific introduction to data acquisition, analysis, and presentation, including the concepts of uncertainty and instrument noise. The contextual goal is to illustrate "how we know what we know about deep space." Two projects have been successfully field tested: Star or Planet? (and a more extensive version, Which Outer Planet?), and How Many Stars and Galaxies?

Our outreach operation has been sponsored through NASA's Oregon Space Grant Small Grants program.
